Growth power in rural areas

The project aims to raise knowledge about and understanding of locally produced food, strengthen local food production through complementary development, and create opportunities for producers and consumers to meet.

About the project

The project aims to strengthen the countryside near the city by increasing production, processing, and sales of local food and developing the skills of producers within the food sector. Concrete food-related events, such as harvest markets, Christmas markets, wild weeks, and theme evenings, are conducted to promote local food production and create opportunities for producers and consumers to meet, contributing to a more vibrant countryside. Through the food markets, rural businesses have the opportunity to make contacts, learn from each other, and gain knowledge from speakers.

A ’wild week’ aims to increase understanding of hunting and wildlife management, where schoolchildren learn about animals and nature as well as how wildlife can be used as a resource for food production, even in school kitchens. Students will be educated about the size of wildlife populations where the correlation between the number of wildlife can be reflected in wildlife accidents in traffic and that the increase in damage to crops and land has negative consequences for food production. Through markets focusing on locally produced food, a closer connection is created between producers – processing companies and customers – consumers, which promotes community development within Nynäshamn municipality's countryside.
