New bathing and gathering place
on Arholma

Arholma is Norrtälje municipality's most visited island without a permanent land connection, with about 130,000 visitors each year. Despite good service, rich cultural heritage, and a growing hiking tourism, there is currently a lack of an accessible public place for bathing and socializing, as well as the opportunity for some residents to have their own boat – something that is crucial for being able to live and work on the island.

By developing a small shipyard area at Österhamn on the island, a new open meeting place is created that combines bathing, culture, and social spaces. The location is beautifully situated on a southwest slope with a view over Österhamn's inlet and is passed by the Stockholm Archipelago Trail, making it a natural stop for hikers year-round.

With Leader support, an accessible bathing area with a dock, bathing ramp, and barbecue area for rest, views, and community is created. A small museum showcasing Arholma's cultural heritage is also planned. Boat spaces at the bathing dock will primarily be for residents who need a boat for work and daily life. A place for outdoor concerts, theater, and summer activities will contribute to Arholma's local development where both residents and visitors will have an increased range of services and activities.
